Book of Urian film reviews of the '90s launched Sept. 15
THE URIAN Anthology 1990-1999 will be launched Sept. 15, 5 p.m., at
Balay Kalinaw of the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon
City.
Edited by Nicanor G. Tiongson and published by the UP Press, with the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the book gathers the reviews of Filipino films shown in the ’90s by members of Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino, the 33-year-old society of respected film critics that hands out the annual Gawad Urian awards for excellence in filmmaking.
Aside from reviews by Tiongson and National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, the book gathers the reviews and other articles of Grace Javier Alfonso, Joel David, Pio G. de Castro III, Justino Dormiendo, Clodualdo del Mundo Jr., Butch Francisco, Mario A. Hernando, Tezza O. Parel, Miguel Q. Rapatan, Emmanuel A. Reyes, Benilda S. Santos, Agustin L. Sotto, Rolando B. Tolentino, Mauro Feria Tumbocon Jr., Tito Genova Valiente and Inquirer editor Lito B. Zulueta.
The book also features interviews of directors Marilou Diaz-Abaya, Maryo J. de los Reyes, Gil Portes, Chito Roño, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Jose Javier Reyes, Joel Lamangan, Olivia M. Lamasan and Raymond Red. Previous Manunuri collections—the Urian Anthology 1970-1979 and Urian Anthology 1980-1989 are considered collector’s items.
