Armida Siguion Reyna to receive Natatanging Gawad for Lifetime Achievement during 33rd Gawad Urian
Film actress and producer Armida Siguion Reyna, a former chair of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, will receive the Natatanging Gawad for Lifetime Achievement during the 33rd Gawad Urian on April 29, 6 p.m., at the Sine Adarna (formerly UP Film Center), University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.
As an actress, Siguion-Reyna is cited for her performances in such movies as “Tahan na Empoy, Tahan,” “Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin,” and “Sa Pagitan ng Dalawang Langit.”
As a producer, she is cited for her trailblazing productions that sought to break away from the star system so prevalent in the Philippine movie studio system through an approach that is creative, collaborative and professional.
As a producer too, Siguion Reyna has sought to produce quality movies that are innovative and well-made and seek to carve a niche for Filipino cinema world cinema.
As an MTRCB head, Siguion-Reyna is cited by the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino as a brave and bold state official who battled censorship and prior restrait in order to advance the constitutional rights to creativity and freedom of artists.
As MTRCB head, too, Siguion-Reyna, according to the Manunuri, sought to apply liberally the repressive provisions of Presidential Decree 1986, the law that created the MTRCB, and sought to pave the way for the classification of movies and do away with censorship.
Siguion-Reyna too is cited for her former leadership of the International Film Festival Committee of the Film Development Foundation, which supports Filipino film artists’ participation in film festivals abroad.
